We pay discounts to our customers twice a year through your Retailer electricity bill. We are committed to informing you about the latest discount methodology and payment schedule changes. Please read on for important updates and answers to commonly asked questions about our customer discounts.

Recent discount payments (rounded, including GST):

  • April 2024 $2.8 million, covering September 2023 to April 2024 (seven months)
  • June 2024 $408,000 as a special one-off additional discount covering the 12 months from April 2023 to March 2024
  • October 2024 $3.3 million, covering April to September 2024
  • April 2025 $2.8 million (Estimated – actual will be slightly lower due to vacant properties), covering October 2024 to April 2025.

Transpower Loss Rental Rebate:

In February 2025, Transpower paid Waipā Networks a special rebate of $82,650.84 (excluding GST) relating to Loss Rental Rebates from August 2021. Although Loss Rental Rebates are no longer paid by Transpower, our policy at the time was to pass these on to customers, added to our Waipā Networks customer discounts. As such, we have included the special August 2021 rebate with our April 2025 customer discounts to qualifying customers. This amounts to approximately $2.80 (excluding GST) extra for each qualifying customer connection (ICP).

FAQs:

  1. Do I qualify for a Discount?
If you were physically connected to Waipā Networks and registered with an electricity retailer on and as of 23 April 2025, you qualify for a discount.
  2. How was my share calculated?
Discounts are calculated based on the discount rate applicable to your property’s distribution price plan(s) from October 2024 to March 2025. To view the applicable rates, please refer to our pricing schedule. Details about the calculation can be found on our Discount Allocation Methodology page.
  3. Why is my discount more (or less) compared to last time?
The total discounts paid can vary from period to period. If your discount has changed significantly, it is likely due to changes in your property’s electricity usage during the calculation period.
  4. I’ve only recently moved into my current property. How does this affect my discount?
Waipā Networks does not maintain a database of customers’ power use and can only tell how much power has been used at an individual property. Your discount may be higher or lower than expected, depending on how much power was used at your current property before you moved in.
  5. I just left the area – will I get a discount?
Discounts were credited to accounts on 23 April 2025 (or a day or two later, depending on the Retailer billing cycle). If you were responsible for the electricity account on the day the discount was paid, you should have received it.
  6. What wording will show on my account?
“Waipā Networks Discount” or a similar description will appear on your account.
