PIRONGIA FEEDER UPGRADES
We’re completing works along Alexandra Street between Factory Road and Pioneer Drive that will improve power supply for customers in Pirongia and Frontier Estate Subdivision. The majority of works will be next to the road with traffic management in place. Some night time outages will also be required for some customers.
This work is all about future proofing our network and making sure our customers have a better quality of electricity supply.
What we’re doing?
- Reinforcing the Pirongia feeder and power supply by upgrading the conductor
- Increasing the supply for Frontier Estate Subdivision
- Undergrounding and installing new high voltage underground cables right out to the Pirongia Road boundary which will enable us to remove the Pirongia overhead 11kv circuit from our poles.
- Removing the low voltage road crossing overhead wires and putting them under the road – This will mean less overhead wires on our poles from Factory Road to the Te Awamutu boundary on Pirongia Road.
When are we doing it?
- Our sub contractor will begin hydrovacing test holes in the week start 11 August until early September. This is to identify underground services and then they will begin drilling and installing the underground cables. This is expected to take around four weeks to complete.
- Our works will then begin and are expected to be completed in late September/early October.
- Some power outages will take place at night near the end of the project so we can complete our works – customers impacted by the outages will receive a notification from their electricity retailer at least three weeks prior to any outages.
