Join our trainee programme.

Maybe you’re thinking about a career change or what’s ahead after school. Waipā Networks is looking for New Zealand’s best trainee line mechanics to join our team.

This is your perfect opportunity to embark on an apprenticeship and learn while you earn in one of the best places to live and work in New Zealand. Sounds exciting, right? Read on for more details.

You’ll train on the job and thrive in the field

We have a number of vacant spaces for the right trainees. You’ll get hands-on training, gaining practical experience under the guidance of experienced line mechanics. You’ll also take part in block courses where you’ll learn and bring those new skills back to the job to practice. You’ll then demonstrate to your assessor that you’ve perfected your new skills on the job.

Completing an apprenticeship usually takes about two years, but the length depends on your motivation and work ethic.

After completing your apprenticeship, you’ll hold an NZQA New Zealand Certificate in Electricity Supply – Line Mechanic Distribution (Level 4) and be eligible to apply for registration. You’ll then be well on your way to progressing in one of New Zealand’s sought-after careers.
