Safety disconnections

Temporary disconnection

A temporary disconnection is one of the most common disconnections we carry out. Waipā Networks may disconnect your electrical supply for a short period of time for several reasons, including:

  1. Bad weather or a power surge
  2. Maintenance of our power lines

We will let your electricity retailer know that your power will be off if there is a planned outage. They will contact you regarding this.

If you require a temporary disconnection for any reason, let us know by calling 0800 800 769

Permanent disconnection

If you are demolishing your home or planning to go off-grid and no longer need the network, you will need to inform your electricity retailer to permanently disconnect from the network.

Your electricity retailer will contact one of our approved contractors to arrange the disconnection. From there, you will communicate directly with the retailer about final bill payments and next steps.

If you need to disconnect your power supply temporarily or permanently to avoid the risk of electrocution from a live electrical supply, for example, when moving house, please call us on 0800 800 769.
