NETWORK RENEWALS

Keeping our network safe and reliable

Every year, we invest in renewing and replacing equipment across the Waipā Networks electricity network. Much of this work happens in the background, but it’s an important part of keeping the network safe, reliable and ready to serve our communities into the future.

Why we renew our network

Our network is made up of thousands of individual assets, from poles and crossarms to cables, transformers and switchgear.

Like any infrastructure, that equipment needs to be inspected, maintained and eventually replaced.

Our ongoing renewal programme allows us to replace equipment at the right time, manage the condition of the network and reduce the risk of equipment failure.

It also gives us opportunities to make improvements as technology and the needs of our communities change.

What we’re renewing

  • poles and crossarms
  • underground cables
  • pillars
  • transformers
  • switchgear and other network equipment.

Work takes place across our network throughout the year and is prioritised based on asset condition, network needs and our planned investment programme.

Keeping you updated

We’ll keep this page updated as plans progress and provide more information where work may have a wider impact on customers or the community.

If planned work requires a power outage, affected customers will be notified by their electricity retailer in advance. Where there are additional impacts or information customers need to know, we’ll provide further updates through the most appropriate channels.

We’ll also work directly with affected landowners and key stakeholders where required.
