Investing in a stronger, more reliable network
We’re investing in the electricity network across Te Awamutu to strengthen key parts of the network and help keep power reliable for our community.
Why we’re investing
Our electricity network is essential infrastructure, and investing in it today helps make sure it continues to serve our communities well into the future.
That means renewing equipment as it ages, strengthening parts of the network where needed, and using new technology to help us manage the network more effectively.
Together, these investments help us maintain a safe and reliable electricity supply, improve how we respond when faults occur, and prepare the network for changing electricity needs.
Work underway and coming up
Network automation
We’re installing automation and recloser equipment that can help us identify and respond to some network faults more quickly. This work is expected to be completed in late 2026.
11kV network upgrades
We’re upgrading part of the 11kV network along the Domain Road / Cambridge Road and rural interface. This work is expected to be completed in late 2026.
Te Awamutu East network upgrade
A larger upgrade is planned for the eastern Te Awamutu network, including undergrounding and other network improvements. Work is expected to begin in the first half of 2027.
High-voltage fusing improvements
We’re making improvements to high-voltage fusing at sites across the network. Delivery timing is still being confirmed.
Leamington 33kV cable
We’re planning an upgrade to the 33kV network in Leamington to provide additional capacity for the area. Delivery timing is still being confirmed.
Planned outages
If a planned outage is required as part of our work, affected customers will be notified by their electricity retailer in advance. We may provide additional information where there are wider community impacts or specific details customers need to be aware of.
