KIHIKIHI NETWORK UPGRADES
We’re replacing power poles and upgrading switchgear and conductors in Kihikihi, in the area around Ballance Street and Leslie Street.
These upgrades reduce the chance of sudden outages and help prepare the area for future growth, supporting the development of new homes and future technology. This part of our network also feeds the Waikeria Prison, ensuring a more reliable and resilient connection to the prison and enabling future growth.
Works will take place between November 2025 and March 2026.
How will customers be impacted?
Planned outages
Some of this work requires planned outages. Some customers may experience up to four outages between November 2025 and March 2026.
Impacted customers in the Ballance Street and Leslie Street areas will be notified by their electricity retailer before any planned outages take place.
Most outages will last between eight and 10 hours.

Traffic Management
Traffic management will be in place around work areas to keep road users and our crews safe.
- Shoulder closures will be in place near work areas.
- Traffic will continue to flow, but lane widths may reduce and lower speed limits may apply.
- Residents may see short delays, especially when large vehicles move equipment.
- Footpaths may be coned off temporarily.
- Overall disruption is expected to be minimal.

The majority of the works will take place on around Ballance Street and Leslie Street.
