Tom Bromfield brings new energy as general manager

Waipā Networks is pleased to announce that Tom Bromfield will be joining the growing team as general manager of delivery on 15 April 2024.

With over 20 years of experience in the industry in New Zealand and abroad, Bromfield will bring a wealth of knowledge and expertise to his new role in Waipā.

His career began in Liverpool, England where he honed his skills in high-voltage cable jointing, gaining full qualifications as a line mechanic and fault technician. Bromfield says applying his skills across a range of roles, from reactive fault repair to substation builds, laid the foundation of his career and led him to New Zealand in 2011.

“For the most part, the qualifications I acquired in England seamlessly transferred over to New Zealand requirements, making the move simpler than I expected,” he says.

Shortly after migrating to Wellington in 2011, Bromfield joined PBA Ltd to help establish a new distribution-focused department.

Building on his experience, he became highly regarded throughout New Zealand as a cable installation and testing specialist, providing turn-key solutions covering design, planning, project management, installation, testing, and commissioning across New Zealand and the Pacific.

“With work, we often travelled to different parts of New Zealand, which was great to see and experience the landscapes when I first arrived,” he recalls.

“Once we started a family, staying near home and being close to family became the more essential part of work-life balance, hence the move to the Waikato in 2021,” he adds.

He moved North to the Waikato, where he spent two years as operations manager at WEL Networks. This position required a shift of focus to large business management, which he took in his stride. The position encouraged him to think about long-term strategy as well as day-to-day operations, which will transfer well to his new role at Waipā Networks.

“Waipā Networks has seen significant growth in recent years and is continuing to do so. I’m looking forward to contributing to this continued growth as I develop in my career,” he shared.

“I thrive in a workplace that works together and empowers its staff. It’s important to develop deep trust with your team, and therefore, my first and most important task is to get to know everyone.”

Sean Horgan, Chief Executive of Waipā Networks, is looking forward to having Tom on the Waipā   Networks team.

“We are excited to welcome Tom. His practical experience, energy, and technical depth will add real value to our team,” says Horgan.
