Shane Ellison appointed as new director

We are thrilled to welcome Shane Ellison as our new board director for a three-year term.

With extensive experience in senior leadership and as a chief executive, Shane Ellison (Ngāi Tahu, Te Atiawa, Ngāti Mutunga, and Ngāti Ruanui) brings a unique skill set, including leading teams, managing financials, and overseeing assets.

Shane has over a decade of experience on boards including the board of Dunedin International Airport Limited and Auckland Light Rail Limited.

Currently, he is providing strategic and commercial advice and governance services to the infrastructure sector, focusing on solar and wind electricity generation and supporting Iwi in their engagement with significant players in the electricity sector.

In his previous roles, Shane was responsible for the operation and asset management of electrified rail networks with high-voltage electricity systems, achieving successful outcomes in complex environments.

Jonathan Kay, our board chair, highlighted Shane’s impressive background in leading diverse teams of up to 2,300 employees where he had been fully responsible for financial matters, fostering growth, and overseeing assets valued at over NZD$26 billion.

We are excited to have Shane join the Waipā Networks whānau and are confident his diverse background and leadership experience will bring valuable insights to the team.
