Kawhia Fire Brigade gets new emergency response ute
The Kawhia Volunteer Fire Brigade has secured vital funding for a new emergency response utility vehicle. A group of 20 dedicated volunteer members make up the Fire Brigade, serving a vast geographical area covering approximately 600 square kilometres of rugged rural terrain. This acquisition promises to enhance the brigade’s ability to provide efficient and effective assistance to various emergencies in their community and beyond.
The brigade’s commitment to safeguarding the community is underscored by its readiness to respond to diverse incidents. From structural and scrub fires to motor vehicle accidents, medical emergencies such as cardiopulmonary incidents and strokes, and natural disasters including landslides, flooding, and fallen trees, the Kawhia Volunteer Fire Brigade is often the first line of defence.
In light of the increased scope of their responsibilities as part of Fire and Emergency New Zealand (FENZ), the brigade recognised the need for reliable transportation to ensure rapid and effective responses. Acquiring a dependable emergency response vehicle becomes paramount, with callouts sometimes spanning over an hour’s drive.
“The generosity and support we’ve received from community funding organisations, including Waipā Networks, has been heartwarming, ” the Kawhia Volunteer Fire Brigade expressed. “As volunteers, we devote our time and energy to serving the community whenever and wherever help is needed. Having our call for assistance answered in such a significant manner feels like a recognition of our commitment to the community.”
Waipā Networks, among other community funding organisations, has stood in solidarity with the brigade’s mission to ensure the safety and well-being of its neighbours. The support has enabled the brigade to acquire a new utility vehicle that will serve as a lifeline in critical situations, transporting personnel and essential life-saving equipment to incidents.
The Kawhia Volunteer Fire Brigade’s dedication, coupled with the support of community partners, serves as a testament to the strength of community bonds and the shared commitment to protecting lives and property.
