Our story
Changing the energy game
Electricity is generated by power stations all over Aotearoa – it’s our job to get it to your home.
Waipā Networks owns and operates the lines, transformers and substations that deliver power to more than 60,000 people in Waipā and surrounding areas.
We’re 100% owned by the Waipā Networks Trust, on behalf of our customers.
Our kaupapa isn’t about shareholders or profit – it’s about delivering cost-effective and reliable energy services that meet the needs of our growing rohe.
100 years in Waipā
Waipā Networks has a rich history in the electricity industry.
Our story began a century ago when electricity became essential for homes and businesses in Aotearoa. Te Awamutu and Cambridge each had their own Electric Power Boards, which joined forces in 1993 and became Waipā Networks in 1998.
Since then, we’ve expanded our infrastructure, building substations, extending power lines, and investing in new technology.
We’ve grown alongside our community and continue to meet the growing demand for electricity for homes, farms, businesses and industry across the region.
We’re here for the long haul, focused on creating a network that’s reliable, efficient, safe and ready for the future.
