Our story
Changing the energy game
Electricity is created by power stations all over Aotearoa – it’s our job to get it to your home.
Waipā Networks owns and operates the lines, transformers and substations that deliver power to more than 40,000 customers in Waipā region.
We’re 100% owned by the Waipā Networks Trust on behalf of the community. Our kaupapa is not shareholders or profit – it’s delivering cost-effective and reliable energy services and solutions to meet the needs of our growing rohe.
100 years in Waipā
Waipā Networks has a rich history in the electricity industry.
Our story began almost a century ago when electricity became essential for homes and businesses in Aotearoa. The Te Awamutu and Cambridge’s Electric Power Boards were set up, and they joined forces in 1993 and were eventually named Waipā Networks in 1998.
Over the years, we’ve continued to expand our infrastructure, including building substations, extending power lines, and developing new technology.
We remain focused on creating a reliable and efficient network for our community and are committed to meeting the growing demand for electricity for residential, rural, commercial, and industrial customers.
We value our customers and are proud to prioritise community wellbeing in everything we do.
