Waipā Networks customer discount on the way

13 November 2024 | News

Waipā Networks customers are receiving their second discount for 2024 on their next power bill.

Since 2001, Waipā Networks has distributed more than $100 million back to customers connected to its network. In recent years, discounts have moved from a once a year format to twice a year.

Through the Waipā Networks Trust ownership model, chairperson Sarah Matthews says profits are retained in the community via these discounts, rather than going to external shareholders.

“Along with customer discounts, we actively support a range of other community initiatives and projects that promote energy efficiency and benefit the wellbeing of customers of Waipā Networks,” she says.

This next discount will see customers receive, on average, about $118 (including GST) each deducted from their bill.

As a community-owned organisation, Waipā Networks chief executive Sean Horgan says it’s been great to be able to provide customers yearly discounts for more than 20 years now, reinforcing Waipā Networks’ commitment to its customers and their whānau.

“We’re 100% owned by the Waipā Networks Trust on behalf of our community. Our Kaupapa is delivering electricity to meet the needs of our growing community, in the most effective way possible,” he says.

Discounts are automatically applied and are based on each property’s energy usage and pricing plan, covering the period from April to September 2024.

Most customers will qualify for discount.  To qualify, they must be physically connected to the network and registered with a retailer on and as of 23 October 2024.

In the last financial year (2023/24), around $5.4 million in discounts was provided back to customers.

Next year Waipā Networks will officially celebrate 100 years of providing electricity to local communities, enhancing the lives of those it services.

“We have an amazing history here at Waipā Networks, dating back to the early 1920’s, and while delivering electricity is what we do, our community is at the centre of why we do it – giving back through the discount is a great example of this,” says Horgan.

The words ‘Waipā Networks Discount’ or similar will appear on your bill to show this discount; however, if you require any further information, please visit our customer discount information page.
