COVID-19 LEVEL 3 UPDATE 24 April 2020

Waipa Networks’ focus during Level 4 has essentially been to ‘keep the lights on’ and ensure we have resources available to quickly and safely restore power during faults.

This remains our focus during Level 3, with some additional critical maintenance work and customer-generated work, where that work is able to be done safely with the required COVID-19 social distancing and PPE (personal protective equipment).

This is in keeping with the Government’s shift in focus from ‘what is essential’ to ‘what is safe’.

The recommencement of critical maintenance work will mean some planned outages, however we aim to keep these to a minimum as we understand that many people, including most of our staff, continue to work from home.

Social distancing requirements between our field staff might mean that outages take a little longer to ensure COVID-19 PPE and protocols are maintained.

Our Te Awamutu Office continues to remain closed to all but critical deliveries.  Our office number and reception are unattended, however customers as always can reach us 24/7 on our faults and emergencies number 0800 800 769.  They can also leave non-urgent messages for us on our website feedback form by clicking here and we will respond by the following business day.

COVID-19 UPDATE 24 March 2020

As an essential service, our priority is to keep the power on, and in the event the power goes off during a fault, to make sure we get it back on as soon as we can. This continues to be our focus during COVID-19 Level 4.

We also need to make sure that we are doing our bit to help prevent the spread of COVID-19 and isolate staff at home wherever this does not impact our critical response ability.

Accordingly, we have postponed all new connection and upgrade work during Level 4 and organised our field crews to be stationed at home and only called out in the event of a power fault.

Critical line patrol and survey staff are continuing their work in isolation and at home when not in the field.

We have also sent all administration and planning staff off site where they are working from home in isolation.

As the COVID-19 situation is unprecedented and rapidly evolving we will be constantly reviewing our response and thank customers for their understanding during this challenging time.
