Welcome to our 110kv line information page

(Note – as of 15 July 2016, the line has been completed and commissioned.  The detail below will be retained on our website for a time for those wanting background information to the project.)

The 110kV line is a major construction project to bring a significant increase in security of power supply to more than 12,000 customers in areas such as Te Awamutu, Kihikihi, Pirongia, Kiokio, Kawhia, Ohaupo, and Pukeatua.  Click to view a detailed map  (the highlighted area shows the area that will directly benefit from this line).

Customers in these areas currently experience regular 8-hour planned maintenance outages, and unplanned outages ranging from several minutes to several hours.   This is because Te Awamutu is currently supplied by a single Transpower line from Karapiro.   With a second supply line the effect of these outages will be all but eliminated.

The new line will run from Te Awamutu to Hangatiki midway between Otorohanga and Te Kuiti.   Waipa Networks will build and maintain the line.  We aim to have this $20M project completed before the next major planned outage in 2016.

This page will be updated as this exciting project progresses.   Some fact sheets and pictures are available for download at the bottom of this page.
